Necromancer servants are spell-casting neutral mobs that attacks monsters by summoning zombies and shooting soul bolts.

Spawning

Necromancer servants are created through a conversion Necroturgy Ritual, after the player has read the Buried Scroll or the Forbidden Scroll.

They can also be spawned through command or spawn egg.

Soul Jar

If an owned necromancer dies, it will drop its soul jar. If the jar is used, by their owner, on a skeleton or skeleton servant, it will transform into a necromancer servant. The transformed necromancer retains their upgrades and custom name.

Behavior

Summoned necromancers will follow their summoner if its 10 blocks away from them unless put into Wandering or Standing By mode.

In Wandering mode, within 10 blocks of their summoner, or non-owned necromancers wanders aimlessly and tries to avoid water, obstacles and environmental hazards.

Necromancer servants that are spawned through spawn egg or commands will target hostile mobs like iron golems, and will retaliate when damaged.

Summon Zombies

When encountering a target, the necromancer will summon 1 - 7 zombie servants to attack it. The zombie servants have a limited lifespan despite the necromancer wearing a necro crown. They will only perform this attack if there's less than 7 servants, owned by a necromancer, surrounding them.

The zombie servants have a chance of spawning with armor and gear.

Giving a necromancer an Osseous Focus, as their owner, will give them the ability to summon skeleton servants alongside the zombies.

If an owned necromancer dies, all of its servants will transfer their ownership to the necromancer's owner. If the necromancer has no owner, and is not set to hostile, through spawning them through /goety map summon_hostile, all of its servants will instantly die when it does.

Shooting

When not summoning and running away from their target, necromancers will rapidly shoot soul bolts at their targets, which deals magic damage and has heavy knockback.

The soul bolts damage output depends on the necromancer's attack attribute. If the necromancer has Strength effect, their soul bolts deal more damage. Their necro staff increases their attack attribute, due to how staffs can be used as melee weapons, causing their soul bolts to deal more damage than players, when they cast with an un-enchanted soul bolt focus.

If a necromancer's target comes within 2 blocks around it, they will stop shooting and start avoiding them until they're 4 blocks away, where they can start shooting bolts once more.

Mob Type

Necromancer servants are undead mobs, causing them to be damaged by the Instant Health status effect, healed by the Instant Damage status effect, and unaffected by the status effects Regeneration and Poison. Necromancers are affected by the Smite enchantment.

Like other undead servants, vanguard servants will heal using their owner's soul energy if owner wears a Necro or Nameless Cape.

Trivia

  • Necromancer servants are based on Minecraft Dungeons' Necromancer mob.

  • Due to the inclusion of the soul jar and their undead nature, necromancer servants are more akin to liches.
