The apostle is an undead hostile boss mob that performs attacks with arrows and a multitude of harmful spells. It is the only source of unholy blood which is used to craft multiple endgame items.
Apostles are summoned by performing the Sabbath Ritual in both versions of Goety. The apostle despawns when the difficulty is changed to Peaceful and will not appear if summoned in Peaceful mode.
Using the Sabbath Ritual will spawn a cloud of smoke that will periodically play sounds before spawning in an apostle after 450 ticks.
The apostle always drops one unholy blood upon death, as well as an assorted amount of blaze rods, papers, and books as well as a 2.5% chance of dropping their own personal Music Disc. The Looting enchantment does not effect the unholy blood drop, but does on the other drops.
If killed in the Nether, they have drop the same items and also some ancient debris, netherite ingots, enchanted golden apples and the Night Beacon.
Unholy bloods are immune to explosions and are fire-resistant, but can be destroyed by cactus.
They will drop a Treasure Pouch upon death.
The apostle attacks any nearby players and will search for any player 64 Blocks around their position if they are not targeting any other mob or player.
Apostles are immune to explosions or arrows caused by their servant or themselves, lightning bolts, fall Damage, suffocation, fire and lava.
Apostles have 85% resistance to damage caused by fireballs shot by other non-summoned mobs. On hard difficulty, apostles gain 85% resistance to magic damage like witches.
Apostles takes 1/2 of total damage when fought in the nether, and will take 1/2 if taking damage from other sources if there's a non-creative/non-spectator player nearby.
Apostles have a damage cap of 20 health by default, meaning if they take damage exceeding that amount, the amount would be reduced to 20 damage instead.
Like other undead mobs, the apostle is harmed by the Instant Health effect and healed by the Instant Damage effect as well as affected by weapons with the smite enchantment. The apostle is immune to status effects caused by mobs other than themselves unless it's beneficial such as Strength or Speed.
After taking a number of hits from their target, 4 times in first phase, 2 times in second phase, the apostle will attempt to teleport away, leaving a cloud of smoke. When below 1/8 of their maximum health, they will teleport every 5 seconds. The will also attempt to teleport if they are in water, lava or have their head stuck in a solid block. They will also teleport towards their target if they're far from them.
When in the Nether, the apostle constantly regenerates health, every 40 ticks in first phase, 20 in second phase unless the apostle has the title Risen which causes them to regenerate in any other dimension and halves the number of ticks by half in the Nether, unless they are damaged by an item with smite enchantment, where they cannot regenerate for a time depending on the level of enchantment as indicated by the shiny yellow bar on their boss bar.
Apostles usually attack by shooting arrows at targets with their bow before casting a spell. They shoot arrows faster the lower their health gets. They move and shoot slower when empowered by Obsidian Monoliths or for 15 seconds after all of their monoliths were destroyed.
When their health drops below half(160 by default), they will transition into their second phase, which will cause them to rapidly heal, constantly emit smoke, stop attacking, push mobs away from them and become immune to all attacks. Once they've reached their maximum health, they will burst smoke and flame particles and have both boss bar and textures changed, entering their second phase. They will not transition after entering this phase.
When entering their second phase, the world will be put into thunderstorm until the apostle dies or despawn.
On their second phase, Nether Meteors will fall from the sky around the apostle if they're not in the Nether and that there's no solid blocks within 32 blocks above the apostle.
Apostles will periodically summon Zombified Piglin Servants around themselves that will attack the apostle's target when fought in the Nether. They won't summon more servants if there's 16 or more around them. They will also cause nearby Zombified Piglins to attack their target in the Nether.
When fighting in a thunderstorm and are not in a rainless biome, they will periodically summon Lightning Traps on their target, which takes the form of a ring of clouds appearing on the target's position that, after a while, summons a lightning bolt at its position.
They will constantly give Burn Hex to their target if fought in the Nether.
When the apostle's boss bar appears, the sky darkens and the fog becomes denser. Apostles will automatically target mobs that are targeting the apostle, if they have no current target.
The first spell the apostle can cast, but only in their first phase. The apostle waves one of their arms up and shoots out a Hell Blast at their target, which creates a large non-destructive explosion and leaving five Hellfires on impact. On Easy difficulty, they will instead shoot Large Fireballs at their target. The fireball functions the same as a ghast's fireball, meaning it can be punched back at the Apostle, which won't deal a lot of damage.
After shooting a Fireball or in second phase, the apostle has a chance of either summoning Obsidian Monoliths or Infernos/Malghasts. On the first phase, the apostle will summon a Obsidian Monolith. On second phase, the Apostle have a chance of summoning 1 - 3 monoliths. They will not spawn either mobs if there's more than 4 of each kind.
Functions similar to Summon Obsidian Monoliths Spell. The Apostle can summon from 1 - 4 Infernos around them, or, in first phase, summon one powerful Inferno. In second phase, the singular Inferno is replaced with a single Malghast. hey will not spawn either mobs if there's more than 2 of either kind and have a 45 seconds of cooldown after summoning either one.
Apostles have a chance of summoning a Hell Cloud above their target's position. After 5 seconds, the Hell Cloud will constantly damage non-allied entities underneath it with Hellfire damage, also inflicting Burn Hex for 1200 ticks. Apostles can only cast this spell if there's less than 2 Hell Clouds around it.
Apostles can only cast this spell if there's 2 or more Infernos/Malghasts around them. The apostle will summon a large cloud of smoke at their target's position where it will linger for a while before spawning in a Fire Tornado. The Apostle can only have one Fire Tornado active. If a Fire Tornado dissipates, the Apostle cannot summon any Tornadoes for 45 seconds. The duration can stack for each Tornado dissipating.
If the target is near the apostle, they will let out a large roar that damages and knockbacks any nearby mob that isn't the apostle's servant or allied to them like witches. On second phase, the apostle will instead summon several Fire Blast traps around themselves, that will shoot any non-allied mobs up in the air, damaging them and giving them Burn Hex. The lower the apostle's health, the more Fire Blasts traps surround them.
When spawned, an apostle will have a custom name and title that appear on their boss bar and above their heads. The name is cosmetic but the title hints on what effects the apostle or their arrows have.
They can be named as follows: Leprosy, Nosghoul, Javan Mal, Ezrafel, Finbar, Avageleon, Ur-Tsar, Khormack, Gan'Dak, Armon, Baal Zephon, Vexx Mock, Krozen, Kim'Se, Margo Sil, Seraphent, Indearium, and Salahmon.
The Risen - Regenerates health.
The Abhorrent - Arrows give Harming Effect.
The Defiler - Arrows give Poison Effect.
The Dark - Arrows give Wither Effect.
The Witch King - Arrows give Weakness Effect.
The Pyre Lord - Arrows sets targets on Fire for 5 seconds and give Burn Hex Effect.
The Profane - Arrows give Hunger Effect.
The Cruel - Arrows give Slowness Effect.
The Terrible - Apostle gains infinite Speed Effect.
The Glorious - Apostle gains infinite Resistance Effect.
The Atrocious - Arrows give Sapped Effect.
Obsidian Monoliths are summoned by apostles. When summoned, they will rise up from the ground, being invulnerable while doing so, before activating at 60 ticks.
Once activated, they will let out a beam towards their apostle, empowering them to be invulnerable to all damage, and periodically summon Zombified Piglins Servants, depending on the apostle's phase, if their target is 4 blocks or less near them.
The limit on how many Servants they can summon depends on their health as indicated by the cracks shown on them.
If they are 32 blocks away from their apostle, they will teleport near their position.
The Monoliths take extra damage from obsidian-level pickaxes, and even more damage if the pickaxe is enchanted with Efficiency. If destroyed this way, they will drop Obsidian and Crying Obsidian blocks, otherwise they drop nothing.
When destroyed, the servants of their apostles, within 16 blocks of it, will be pushed away and take 5 - 14 magic damage. Their apostle will also gain a 45 second cooldown before they can summon another once more.
Obsidian Monoliths spawned through commands does nothing.
Summoned by apostles, the Fire Tornado follows the apostle's target and will cause any nearby non-allied mobs to be sucked in for 80 ticks before dissipating, the intensity depending on the mob or player's knockback resistance.
Fire Tornadoes also remove any Fire Resistance effect from affected mobs and sets them on fire for 30 seconds. Fire Tornadoes also disable Shields. Fire Tornadoes spawned by Apostles gives Burn Hex. Fire Tornadoes can dissipate when casting a Wind Blast at it (exclusive to Goety 2).
The apostle's boss music is Minecraft Dungeon's Ghast by Peter Hont.
The apostle's modern iteration and design is based on Israphel from the Yogscast's Minecraft Series, Shadow of Israphel.
Apostles used to be a more powerful version of the Disciple and not a boss in the original Fire N' Blood mod. In the mod, the Disciple would wield a dark wand, instead of the Liber Barathrum, while the apostle wield a Dark Staff.
The apostle became a boss mob due to the word having a more grander meaning than originally thought and to make the cultists more prominent.
The dark hat worn by apostles were made because their tall white head clashed with their dark look and to help make them look more menacing.
The apostle's sounds are made by adding reverb and manipulating pitches and volume of several Vanilla sounds.
The boss can be seen as Goety's version of Botania's Guardian of Gaia and Thaumcraft's Outer Land Bosses.
If the apostle is disarmed of their bow somehow, they will automatically spawn a new bow to carry.
The apostle's default/non-Nether death animation is based of the Minecraft Dungeon's Enderman death animation.
