Getting Started

For Goety 2 (1.19/1.20 version)

Highly recommend installing Patchouli and craft the Black Book which will provide a lot of information on the mod's features.

To get started on the mod, one must craft a Totem of Roots. The recipe requires 1 Ectoplasm, which can be dropped by Wraiths or found in Dungeon Chests.

Equip the Totem by either right-clicking on it or placing it on a Charm slot in the Curios Menu. The Totem is needed to craft the necessary items to progress, but it needs to have Soul Energy first.

Soul Energy is obtained by killing mobs while having the Totem equipped, with certain types of mobs giving more Soul Energy than others (ie. Illagers). Each time the Totem is used to craft items, which is done in a regular Crafting Table, it will use up some Soul Energy in the process. If the Totem doesn't have enough Soul Energy, it will disappear once the items are crafted.

From here, you have several options, but let's start with making a Wand and a Focus Bag.

If you have found a Monster Spawner, you can make the components more cheaply using Cursed Infusion

If not we'll just use the Totem. First, the Wand. For starters, craft an Empty Focus.

Next, craft a Haunted Sapling in order to obtain Haunted Wood Blocks. The Sapling can grow into a Haunted Tree by itself, but it's recommended that you Bone Meal it to grow it.

You should then make Haunted Planks using the Haunted Log from the tree, which is crafted the same way as all other types of Wooden Planks. Then, craft a Magic Fabric, one out of several types of fabrics available in the mod.

Now, with an Empty Focus, a Magic Fabric, a Haunted Plank and 2 Lapis Lazulis, you are now able to craft a Dark Wand.

The Dark Wand allows you to cast Spells by placing a Focus within it. For our first Focus, we can make the Soul Light Focus, which allows you to throw a projectile that leaves a glowing ball of light on the location it hits.

To place a Focus within the Wand, you must hold the Wand on your main or off hand and either press the Open Wand Focus Slot key (default: Z) and place the Focus in it, or press the Open Focus Circle key (default: X) and press the Focus to place it in.

The mod offers a large amount of Focuses, so it's best to craft a Focus Bag which can hold 8 Focuses and can be equipped in the Belt Slot of the Curios Menus. The Focus Radial Menu also takes the Focuses within the Bag into account alongside the ones in the player inventory.

And that's the gist of it. There are some Focuses that you can craft at the beginning, but most are crafted using Rituals, which is covered in another page.

Of course there's still some stuff that can be improved early on. For one, while the Totem of Roots is useful to craft new items, it has a low capacity of holding in Soul Energy.

Fortunately, there's a better Totem that has a higher capacity but also fulfill the same functions as the Totem of Roots. To make this Totem, you must first craft Awakened Emeralds.

These special Emeralds are used to craft a variety of items and even some blocks within the mod, and can even be used as a substitute for regular Emeralds. One of these items is of course the better Totem as mentioned before, the Totem of Souls.

The Totem of Souls can carry a lot more Soul Energy than the Totem of Roots, more fitting for future endeavors.

The mod also provides a set of blocks that are used in crafting recipes or for decorative purposes, Shade Blocks, which are useful in creating the blocks used in Rituals.
