An ominous scythe is a melee weapon that is mainly used to deal damage to entities or for breaking certain blocks faster than by hand.

Obtaining

Ominous scythes are made using the Forge Ritual.

Repairing

An ominous scythe can be repaired on an anvil with cursed metal ingots. They can also be repaired by combining two of the same type of items together in a crafting interface, or grindstone.

Usage

Attacking

Pressing attack while holding the scythe inflicts damage on both mobs and other players. Upon damaging a mob or player, the scythe's durability decreases by 1. When inflicting damage, the wielder gains soul energy, with the amount depending on the "darkScytheSouls" specified amount under goety.toml and whether the scythe's enchanted with Soul Eater.

Sweeping

The player can perform a sweep attack with scythes, much like swords. The difference is that the attack recharge takes longer, barring some circumstances, the player is capable of performing a sweep attack if the attack recharge meter is around 50% with lesser area of effect and that said area of effect is greater than a sword once the meter is 90% or above.

The sweeping edge enchantment increases the damage dealt by 50% of the normal hit damage for level I, 67% for level II and 75% for level III.

The sweep attack also grants the player soul energy.

If the player is not holding any item offhand and/or the player is wearing grave gloves, the attack recharges goes quicker.

Tool

Scythes can be used to break blocks that are mineable with hoes as well as crops, bushes and stem blocks. When breaking a block within the category, it breaks all other mineable blocks in a 2x1x2 area around it.

Sculk

If the block has the word "sculk" on its ID and is mineable with hoes, the scythe can mine it as though it has Silk Touch.

Enchantments

A scythe can receive sword enchantments as well as Fortune and enchantments that are applicable to items that are breakable.

Ritual Ingredient

Trivia

  • The ominous scythe was once called Dark Scythe. The name was changed to differentiate it from the Dark Metal tools and equipment.

  • Scythes play a special sound effect when damaging mobs or players.

    • They also play a sound when breaking blocks in an area of effect.
