A dark robe is the basic robe variant that can be worn by the player.
When worn, spells have their soul cost cut by 1/2. It also allows servants to give soul energy when they kill a mob or player.
Wearing the robes will cause Servants to be capable of giving the player soul energy when they kill a mob or player.
According to the Black Book, these are the robes the Evokers are wearing.
