A cairn necromancer is a spell-casting undead hostile mob found primarily in crypts.

Spawning

Cairn necromancers spawn during the generation of particular crypt rooms and hallways. They can rarely naturally spawn in crypts as well.

Drops

  • 0–1 Ectoplasms. The maximum is increased by 1 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 0-4 with Looting III.‌

  • 0-2 bones. The maximum drop is increased by 1 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 0-5 bones with Looting III.

Cairn necromancers have a 2.5% chance of dropping a forbidden piece, with an increase of 1% per looting level.

Behavior

Cairn necromancers wanders aimlessly and tries to avoid water, obstacles and environmental hazards.

Cairn necromancers attack players and iron golems within 35 blocks by either summoning hostile skeleton servants or shooting ice spikes at them.

Cairn necromancers don’t take damage from freezing in powder snow or freeze attacks.

Summon Skeletons

When encountering a target, the necromancer will summon 1 - 3 skeleton servants to attack it. The skeleton servants have a limited lifespan despite the necromancer wearing a necro crown. They will only perform this attack if there's less than 7 servants, owned by a necromancer, surrounding them.

If summoned within the crypt, skeleton servants will spawn holding iron swords and have a chance of having chainmail/cursed knight armor.

If summoned outside of the crypt, skeleton servants will spawn with bows and act like regular skeletons.

Shooting

When not summoning and running away from their target, cairn necromancers will rapidly shoot ice spikes at their targets, which deals freeze damage and gives Freezing effect.

If a cairn necromancer's target comes within 2 blocks around it, they will stop shooting and start avoiding them until they're 4 blocks away, where they can start shooting spikes once more.

Mob Type

Cairn necromancers are undead mobs, causing them to be damaged by the Instant Health status effect, healed by the Instant Damage status effect, and unaffected by the status effects Regeneration and Poison. Cairn necromancers are ignored by the wither and are affected by the Smite enchantment.
